The 2014 Hotel Show
highlighted 596 exhibitors from 45 countries with over 13,400 visitors from 98 countries.
The growth in the hospitality industry has been a long-standing strategy to diversify the GCC economies. It has been forecasted to grow from USD 22.8 billion in 2013 to USD 35.9 billion 2018. Factors attributing to this growth are the influx of tourists expected during the upcoming global events such as the World Expo 2020 (UAE), and the FIFA World Cup 2022 (Qatar); infrastructure developments; government investment in tourism; and new international routes established by GCC carriers.
According to a recent publication, the UAE and Saudi Arabia have a combined pipeline of over 50,000 hotel rooms under construction; the leaders in hospitality development in the Middle East & Africa (MENA) region. The UAE has
emerged as the regional hub for hospitality; leisure and business tourism.
