Mission of Organization
The Erie County Industrial Development Agency (ECIDA) is a public benefit corporation, created by state law.
ECIDA’s mission is to promote and assist private sector industrial development and, thereby, advance job opportunities and economic welfare to the people of Erie County. ECIDA’s International Department has an export assistance program designed to promote and enhance the exporting activities of Erie County businesses. ECIDA offers the exporter access to sources of financial support, market research, the facilitation of trade missions to foreign markets and general export counseling.
Export Promotion Activities
ECIDA has an agreement with both the Export-Import Bank of the United States and the U.S. Small Business Administration to market their programs in Western New York. Also, ECIDA is a licensed broker in New York State for export credit insurance. This program provides foreign credit protection for both commercial risk of default (the buyer’s own inability to pay when an obligation is due), and political risks of default (events beyond the control of the buyer, caused by a government action). Political risks include a) political violence such as war; b) government intervention; or c) transfer of inconvertibility risk, due to the inability to purchase U.S. dollars in a legal market.
Events
January 1997, ECIDA led a Western New York Trade Delegation to Europe. The delegation consisting of six local service companies traveled to Belgium, the Netherlands, France and Germany. The purpose of the mission was to promote Buffalo as a distribution center for North America and to aid participating companies in finding customers in Europe.
In February 1997, the ECIDA sponsored a Belgian Videoconference with GOM Limburg, another industrial development agency in Belgium. There were 8 Western New York companies along with 6 Belgian companies that participated in this videoconference. The purpose of this alliance between GOM Limburg and the ECIDA is to bring businesses in Western NY and Limburg together and to jointly help them realize their goals.
In June 1997, the ECIDA lead a trade mission to three Chinese cities: Beijing, Shanghai, and Dalian. The delegation consisted of 15 members representing 8 companies. In addition to the eight companies there were eight more Western New York businesses represented through product presentations. There were over 230 individual, private meetings scheduled, linking up delegation members with potential customers, distributors of companies interested in working on cooperative projects.
Environmental Focus
ECIDA will be leading a business delegation to South East Asia for New York State businesses interested in gaining access to this region. The delegation will visit Jakarta, Indonesia, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Bangkok, Thailand.
Also, ECIDA, as a city-state partner of Export-Import Bank of the United States, will support the export of environmental goods and services through a short-term environmental insurance policy with coverage of 95 percent of the commercial and 100 percent of the political risks of default without a deductible. Medium-term environmental exports will have enhanced guarantee coverage with local cost coverage equal to 15 percent of the U.S. contract price and capitalization of interest during construction.

Mission of Organization
The World Trade Centers (WTC) are independent, locally based organizations that assist member firms with international business development. There are over 300 WTCs in about 100 countries bringing together businesses and government agencies involved in foreign trade. World Trade Centers are promoted by individuals, companies, cities, chambers of commerce, port authorities and other entities interested in international trade. WTC's are dedicated to sharing their knowledge and experience by creating a unique information and promotion network. Many WTC's belong to the World Trade Center Association (WTCA). Not all organizations carrying the WTC name belong to the association. A list of member WTCs with their home page addresses is available on the WTC website. Membership requirements and costs vary according to each World Trade Center.
Export Promotion Activities
Each WTC is a one-stop trade information hub where an international business person is offered a full range of services. Each WTC develops its own program, which often includes trade counseling, market research, and worldwide contacts. WTCA On-Line Trade Opportunities Database allows WTC members and WTCA On-Line subscribers to post and review offers to buy and sell products and services. There is also a “Who's Read" area of the database that lets you know who has reviewed your posting. Search the trade lead listings by company name, product category, harmonized code or country. Businesses have the opportunity to tap into WTCA On-Line, a powerful new website for international trade linked to over 300 World Trade Centers in 97 countries, representing over 500,000 affiliated businesses.
Each WTC and its association, offer a variety of publications and events. Contact your local WTC directly to learn about its activities and services.
Environmental Focus
The World Trade Centers throughout our nation assist U.S. companies in all industries, including the environment, looking to expand overseas. The WTC’s are ideally suited to guide export “beginners” through the initial stages of the export process. Several WTCs have developed a specific focus on environmental exports. For example, the World Trade Center Phoenix, the World Trade Center Pittsburgh, and the World Trade Center Raleigh-Durham (North Carolina) have each successfully applied for matching Market Development Cooperator Program grant funds from the Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration, to develop trade programs focused on the environmental sector. Many other WTCs participate in and cosponsor activities focused on environmental exports.
Availability of Services
Services are limited to WTC members, although opportunities for non-members to participate in specific activities may exist. WTC services are reciprocal, allowing members to access them at all operating WTCs around the world.

Mission of Organization
The International Trade Division of North Carolina Department of Commerce is the state’s lead organization for exports and it seeks to foster the growth of exports for small and medium-sized manufacturers and service companies with a proven domestic product and a willingness to commit the time, personnel, and finances necessary to participate in the global marketplace.
Export Promotion Activities
To achieve its mission and to make exporting profitable for North Carolina companies, the International Trade Division offers three major programs:
Export Outreach Program. The Export Outreach Program is a series of workshops designed to walk a company through every facet of the export process. In cooperation with the North Carolina Community College Small Business Network, the International Trade Division has made this program available in six regional centers across the state. The Export Outreach Program is an intense, hard-core program where commitment, preparation, and action are instilled as the basis for successful exporting.
Trade Events Program. Once a company is prepared and ready to export, the International Trade Division provides the means for a company to gain international exposure for its product and the opportunities for the company to link with distributors, dealers, and buyers through the Trade Events Program. This program consists of catalog shows, trade fairs, and trade missions in carefully selected markets worldwide. The Trade Events Calendar is updated periodically to inform North Carolina companies of these opportunities. Usually, a company must sign up to participate in an event six to twelve months in advance of the actual event.
Shared Foreign Sales Corporation. After a company has established a working relationship with a foreign distribution dealer, or buyer, the International Trade Division offers a financial assistance program called the Shared Foreign Sales Corporation. This program permits the North Carolina company to reduce the taxable amount of its export profits by as much as 30 percent on federal and state taxes. In turn, this reduction in taxes allows a company to reinvest the savings into increased export volume and/or new export markets.
